The Musée François Pompon is housed in a 17th-century mansion beside the Basilique Saint-Andoche in Saulieu. A major part of the museum is devoted to François Pompon, the celebrated animal sculptor born in Saulieu in 1855. His stylised animals are recognisable by their flowing lines, smooth surfaces and simplified forms. The museum displays various animal sculptures and studies that provide an insight into his artistic development and working methods. Other collections explore the archaeology, history and traditions of Saulieu and the Morvan, alongside religious art, historic everyday objects and temporary exhibitions.
