Basilique Saint-Andoche

The Basilique Saint-Andoche is considered one of Burgundy’s finest Romanesque churches. Built in the 12th century on the remains of an earlier abbey, the basilica shows clear influences from the Abbey of Cluny. Inside, its richly sculpted capitals immediately attract attention. They depict biblical stories, plants, animals and fantastical creatures, offering a fascinating insight into medieval art. Other highlights include the reconstructed marble tomb of Saint Andoche, the medieval choir stalls and a copy of the Évangéliaire de Charlemagne.
