About this place
Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine crowns the hill of Vézelay and ranks among Burgundy’s most important monuments. The Romanesque basilica is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has served for centuries as a starting point and gathering place for pilgrims travelling towards Santiago de Compostela. Allow time for the luminous interior, carved capitals and views from the hill. Summer weekends can be busy. Park at Parking du Champ de Foire below the village and walk up through Vézelay’s historic main street.
