La Cité des Climats & vins de Bourgogne

The Cité des Climats et vins de Bourgogne in Beaune is an interactive museum dedicated to the vineyards, wines and wine culture of Burgundy as a whole. It is the largest of the three Cités and occupies a striking contemporary building at the entrance to Beaune. The 24-metre-high structure was inspired by the curling tendrils of a grapevine.

Its multimedia and sensory visitor trail covers approximately 1,100 m² and explores more than 2,000 years of winegrowing history. It explains how soil, location, climate and the work of the winegrower combine to determine the character of a wine. Particular attention is devoted to the Climats: precisely defined vineyard plots, each with its own history and terroir. The Climats of the Burgundy winegrowing region have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2015.

The visit ends with a tasting of a Burgundy wine. Grape juice is available for children and visitors who prefer not to drink alcohol. The Cité also offers family activities, tasting workshops, temporary exhibitions, a shop and the Les Accords wine bar and restaurant.
