smiths and tile makers at work. Much of the stone, timber, clay and other material is sourced directly from the surrounding site. This provides a fascinating insight into how medieval castles were built and how heavy materials were transported and lifted without modern equipment.
In addition to the castle itself, you can explore various workshops, gardens and a working medieval watermill. As construction continues every year, Guédelon is constantly changing and remains interesting to visit more than once.
Allow at least four hours for your visit. Families and anyone interested in history can easily spend an entire day here. Food is available on site, and there are designated picnic areas. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a lead throughout the visit.
