About this place
Lac du Crescent – a peaceful circular walk in the Morvan
This varied circular walk explores the forests and rolling countryside surrounding Lac du Crescent. The peaceful reservoir lies on the border between the Yonne and Nièvre departments, where the Cure and Chalaux rivers meet.
The route combines woodland paths, quiet country roads and more open sections with views across the lake and the surrounding landscape. The undulating terrain and irregular shape of the reservoir provide changing scenery throughout the walk. There is little development around the lake, giving the area a quiet and rural atmosphere.
The route is not technically difficult, but at almost 16 kilometres with 373 metres of ascent, it is still a substantial walk. Wear sturdy walking shoes and carry enough food and water, as there are very few facilities along the way.
